EU policy

The European Union has long been a leader in sustainable finance policy. From its 2018 Action Plan on Sustainable Finance to the European Green Deal and the Clean Industrial Deal, it aims to transition to a competitive, innovative and resilient net-zero economy.

To achieve this goal, the EU requires €750-800 billion in yearly investments, mostly from private finance. However, as the EU works to simplify its sustainable finance regulations, there is concern this may cause regulatory uncertainty and limit access to consistent sustainability data - potentially hindering investors in supporting the transition.

The PRI's EU 2030 Roadmap offers recommendations to enhance coherent and reliable sustainable finance regulations. Priorities include corporate and investor disclosure, due diligence, the EU Taxonomy, stewardship, and science-based climate, nature and transition policy. Additionally, the PRI actively contributes as a member of the EU Platform for Sustainable Finance, driving regulatory improvements and responsible investment practices.

Together with signatories, the PRI engages with EU policymakers to advance the European Green Deal, a strong sustainable finance framework, and an equitable, competitive, net-zero economy.
